Ok, so I was the last one to leave the park today from our home schooling meeting. I pulled out of my parking space and watched as a teenage girl pulled quickly out of her space up near the entrance of the park and sped away. I turned my attention to a second car that was parked down two spaces from her, but not moving. As I got closer to it the driver backed out of his spot really fast with NO warning and slammed into the front of my new van. (It is only three car payments old…sigh). I saw him coming at us in slow motion and knew there was nothing I could do. If I pulled to the left he would have hit my passenger side and if I pulled to the right he would have hit the van head on (possibly deploying the air bags) and I had no time to put it in reverse and back up. We both got out and he was fighting back tears as he apologized and tried to process what had just happened. He proceeded to explain that he was there to ‘fight’ some other teenage boy over some teenage girl (I am assuming the first girl that tore out of the parking lot). He also said that he saw me in his mirror and hit the gas instaed of the brake and that he wasn’t sure why he even did that. After that I saw his lips moving but the sounds coming out mattered very little to me. It took forever for the police to arrive, even though they are right across the street. The officer told me that this would not be treated as an actual accident because it was not a highway accident and that it was up to the boy to contact the insurance agent and they should be in touch with me soon…
This is why they should not give driver’s licenses to teenage people…
